BBR2 mobile update 2022.01.14

IMPORTANT: Please collect any prizes you have on old Tournaments before installing the new update. Because our Tournament system is changing, any Tournaments dated earlier than January 14 will not be visible in this update.

Update 2022.01.14 brings some important changes to Beach Buggy Racing 2, including adjusted behaviors for sixteen Powerups, new options in the Body Shop, and a change in our Tournament servers which will allow us more options for variety in the future.

Powerup changes

This update completes the Powerup tuning effort we started back in November. We realize changes to Powerups can be unsettling to people who have invested time and money in them. Our goal is to make the game more fair and fun for the whole range of players and strategies. In some cases, that means re-tuning Powerups and even changing their behaviors.

Please remember that these changes affect all players and not just you. Although the changes may feel unfamiliar at first, we believe they will make the game better in the long run.

Several Powerups have had their behaviors adjusted in important ways.

  • Cure - When you first activate the Cure, it also now gives you a very short duration Invulnerability, which can be upgraded.

  • Freeze Ray - Changed from a single radial blast to a barrage type effect. Great for taking out obstacles (and opponents)

  • Hamster Ball - Changed from homing shots to multiple dropped balls, the number of which can be upgraded.

  • Remote Control - Instead of a single blast, it's now a homing missile so it's easier to hit people.

  • Ball 'n' Chain - Also changed to a homing missile. Very effective for bringing airborne opponents back to earth.

  • Junk in the Trunk - In addition to breakables, it also drops Powerup hazards like Spring and Fake

  • Tunnel Vision - Now it always attacks the 1st place driver (or 2nd place if you are in 1st place.)

In addition, we have adjusted the durations of several Powerups, including Shield, Boost Juice, Trampoline, Police Chase, Angry Bull, Invulnerability and Tesla Coil. Primarily these are to help rebalance the boosts and shields with the weapons in the game.

Tournament formatting

You won't see much of a change just yet, but we are making some significant and exciting changes under the Tournaments hood. Among other things we're increasing the flexibility of our Tournament authoring system to allow for more variety.

Some variations you can expect to see include:

  • Changing the number of laps in Race, Time Trial and Firework Fury events

  • Events that let you test drive different cars

  • Special driver events

  • A greater variety of prize types, and also more prize tiers

As noted above, please remember that this format change means Tournaments before January 15, 2022 will no longer be visible in this update, so be sure to collect your prizes before you get the update.

New wheels in the Body Shop

Last but definitely not least, we added a whole bunch of new wheels you can use to customize your cars. There's a new spiked wheel, slices of watermelon and lime, and a whole range of new colorizable wheels. To customize your car, navigate to the Team screen and select Body Shop.
